Good Girl, Bad Girl
Sophia Reyes
I just got turned on to Chicago designer Sophia Reyes by Laura Lachman who wore one Sophia’s dresses to
Gen Art film festival’s closing night. I fell in love with seemingly simple, yet intricate little black number that Laura
was sporting and had to check the whole collection out.
At first glance, Sophia Reyes is an array of easy to wear, whimsical dresses, all with fantastic movement and
loose drape- but there’s more than meets the eye. In the arrears, killer geometric patterns are carved out,
balancing fabric and skin to create eye-catching looks that are straight-up sexy.
The overall look of Reyes’ collection is feminine, and flirty, with an unexpected edge. A grand blend of sweet
vintage in its ruffled wing sleeves, curvaceous-figure fit and underarm cowls- and edgier, modern sexuality in the
die-cuts and strapping back designs. The mood is nothing less than taught film noir tension between good
girl/bad girl.
The Reversible Dress (a personal favorite, designed with those of us who are budget conscious) is a strapless
form fitting number— from the front. While the back of the dress is a gathered skirt and large ruched elastic
piece that cleverly showcases a sliver of lower back. The dress comes in a wicked metallic silver/demure peach
combo. So perfectly naughty and still capable of being oh-so nice.
